Humans are wired for vulnerability. We feel vulnerable when we are trying something new. We feel vulnerable asking someone on a date. We feel vulnerable starting a new job. We feel vulnerable waiting for test results from the doctor, going back to school, raising children.
It’s in that vulnerability where we find the greatest opportunity for self-love and human connection. Our vulnerability is the birthplace of everything meaningful - joy, creativity, belongingness, need to love and to be loved. The thing is, we also find pain – the potential for shame, rejection, and heartache in that vulnerability. There cannot be one without the other.
Learn to embrace your own and each other’s vulnerability. Have the courage to be imperfect. You get to be you! Have compassion to be kind to yourselves and each other, and connection as the result of authenticity. Believe that what makes you vulnerable makes you beautiful. Be authentic and real. Let yourselves be seen. Deeply seen. Love with your whole heart even if there is no guarantee.
