Dr. Sage Schuitevoerder [last name is pronounced skate-eh-vor-der although he prefers to be called Dr. Sage] has extensive training in empirically supported therapies (considered the “gold standard” of treatments) for Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, such as Prolonged Exposure Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, and Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR).
Dr. Sage is also passionate about 'Third Wave Psychotherapies,' such as Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, which uses mindfulness meditation to cope with intrusive thoughts and unpleasant emotions. These techniques are not new but rather stem from ancient Buddhist philosophies about the nature of human suffering and responding to the experience pain with openness and acceptance, instead of anger and avoidance.
When not working in a professional capacity, Dr. Sage enjoys learning foreign languages, playing acoustic guitar, and showing off his collection of colorful socks.
