Availability of Telehealth Services Due To The Corona Virus (COVID-19) Pandemic
Online / Live-Video Therapy Sessions with Dr. Sage
Has your life been affected by the corona virus (COVID-19)? So much has changed in such a short amount of time for so many people. Now more than ever, it's more important to maintain good mental health in a time with so much uncertainty. My goal is to help you adjust to stressful life events and to feel empowered instead of debilitated by the curve balls that life throws us.
I offer live-video and telephone meetings. We need to adapt to an ever-changing world by embracing technology. Sessions are private, secure & confidential, and covered by most medical insurances. You can use a laptop with an enabled webcam, an iPad, or Smart Phone. You get a real, caring person from the convenience of your own home.
Are you having difficulty finding a provider who specializes in your specific condition in your area? Are you located in California and interested in meeting with Dr. Sage but are not physically located in San Diego?
The term telehealth (sometimes hyphenated as tele-health) means medicine that is delivered remotely using technology such as telephones, e-mail, text-message, or live-video teleconferencing software. Many people are already familiar with this technology (for example Skype, Google Hangouts, or Apple's Face-time). Practitioners follow special guidelines from the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and use encrypted software to ensure your information is private and secure. After setting up an appointment with Dr. Sage, you will receive a private, encrypted link for a live-video appointment. It's not necessary to download any additional apps or software. Just click on the link on your appointment date & time to have the meeting! Your internet speeds don't need to be very fast either, and should be fine if you can stream any video content, such as clips on Youtube or shows on Netflix.
On the day of the appointment, try and have a quiet, private space to do the meeting free from disruptions. If we decide to do any writing assignments as part of your therapy, then worksheets or journal entries can be uploaded securely using an online patient. If you have any questions in between our appointments, I am available via phone or email.

Frequently Asked Questions about Online Therapy
Are online therapy sessions helpful?
Online therapy has been shown to be as effective as in-person appointments.
Are online sessions safe?
Yes, the sessions are conducted using HIPAA compliant encrypted technology.
Will I be able to feel connected to my provider using online sessions?
For some, meeting with someone using a live-video will feel very natural. This tends to be especially true for people who are already comfortable with the technology in their day-to-day life. Many people use Skype to connect with loved ones or use online conferencing software for work. For others, it may take some getting used to.
I am located in a different state than California. Can I still receive psychotherapy with you?
Currently, the practice of psychology in the United States is regulated at the state-level, which means that the provider needs to be licensed in the same state in which you are receiving services. For example, a client located to San Francisco can receive services from a provider located in San Diego. Currently, Dr. Sage is licensed in California to provide in-person or telehealth visits, and in Florida as an out-of-state telehealth provider. For information about Florida's out-of-state telehealth providers, go to: flhealthsource.gov/telehealth/. If you are located in a different state, then you will need to find a provider located in your state.
Will insurance reimburse me for online sessions?
Insurances recognize the practice of telehealth as medical necessity. Sometimes, you may need pre-authorization from your insurance prior to receiving online-based therapy appointments. If you have any questions, ask your insurance if telehealth services are part of your plan.
Is online therapy appropriate for everyone?
No, in some cases it may be better to meet with a therapist in-person. Feel free to talk with Dr. Sage to determine the right decision for you.
